Every fall wardrobe needs a great brown loafer—and I think I may have found the one.
Meet the Dolce Vita Baxen Loafer in Chestnut.
After nearly 20 years in the shoe business, I’m pretty particular about loafers. They need to look polished without feeling too conservative, have enough personality to make an outfit interesting and—most importantly—actually be comfortable.
The Baxen checked all three boxes.
First Impression: SO Soft
The first thing I noticed when I unboxed these was how incredibly soft they felt.
There are loafers that require a breaking-in period, and then there are shoes you put on and immediately know you’re going to wear. The Baxen falls into the second category.
They feel comfortable right out of the box, which is a big deal for me. No one wants a beautiful loafer sitting in the closet because it hurts to wear.
The Chestnut Brown Is So Good
Black loafers will always have a place in my closet, but brown is the color I’m reaching for this fall.
The Chestnut is warm and rich without feeling too dark, and it works beautifully with denim, cream, camel, navy, gray and all of those earthy fall tones.
It also gives an outfit that slightly more interesting, less expected look than a basic black loafer.
Wear Them Now
You absolutely don't need to wait for cold weather.
Right now, I'd wear the Baxen with:
Cutoffs + socks + an oversized blazer.
It's that perfect transitional outfit when you're ready to dress for fall but the weather hasn't gotten the memo yet.
Wear Them Later
Once the temperatures drop, these get even easier.
My fall uniform would be:
Wide-leg denim + a crisp white collared shirt + a sweater + the Baxen.
Simple, polished and incredibly wearable.
They'd also be great with straight-leg denim, trousers, ankle-length pants or even a midi skirt.
Are the Dolce Vita Baxen Loafers Worth It?
For me, yes.
They're comfortable, versatile and have just enough fashion to make them feel special without becoming something you'll only wear for one season.
That's exactly what I look for when I'm buying shoes.
If I were still buying for my store, this is a shoe I would put on the floor.
