For years, if you were looking for Frye boots in Burlington, Vermont, there was a very good chance you were coming to Dear Lucy.
Campus. Harness. Billy. We sold a LOT of Frye.
And I loved buying it.
There was something about a Frye delivery—the smell of all that leather, the weight of the boots and those iconic styles that came back season after season because women actually wore them.
So, naturally, one of the first things I wanted to do for Dear Lucy Edits was go back through Frye with my buyer hat on.
After nearly 20 years of buying shoes for my stores, the question is still the same:
What would I put on the floor right now?
The Frye Campus 14L

There was no question the Frye Campus 14L would make my buy.
We sold Campus boots for years at Dear Lucy, and I love seeing this silhouette feel so good again. I'm choosing Light Brown—warm, vintage-looking and very ’70s in the best possible way.
This is the Frye boot I'd build an outfit around.
The Frye Harness

I sold so many versions of the Frye Harness boot over the years. For my current edit, I chose the Harness 12R in Smoke and the shorter Harness 8R in Black.
Same iconic Frye DNA. Two completely different jobs in the closet.
The Frye Kate Pull On
THE VINTAGE ONE.
The Kate Pull On in Banana has exactly the worn-in, old-school Frye feeling I want right now.
I'd wear it with relaxed denim and a chunky sweater, but I might love it even more with a long skirt or feminine dress.
The Frye Billy Short
A LITTLE WESTERN. NOT A COSTUME. 🤎
The Billy Short in Chocolate adds just enough Western influence to make the assortment interesting without feeling like you're suddenly dressing like a cowboy.
This is the kind of boot that makes a very simple outfit better.
And Yes, I Bought a Clog
Of course I did.
The Frye Campus Clog in Banana takes one of the brand's most recognizable looks and turns it into an easy slip-on.
Relaxed denim now. Cords + chunky socks later.
Easy yes.
Would I Still Buy Frye for Dear Lucy?
Absolutely.
That's actually what I've loved about putting together The Frye Edit.
I don't have a shoe floor anymore. There won't be a giant Frye delivery arriving. I won't be unpacking boxes or figuring out where I'm going to fit all those boots.
But after nearly 20 years of buying shoes, I still look at them exactly the same way.
What feels good? What feels new? What will she actually wear? And does it earn a spot on the floor?
