I think September might be my favorite month to buy denim.
After nearly 20 years of buying for my stores, I still approach a denim buy the same way: I don't want ten versions of the same jean. I want every pair to earn its spot.
And this fall, I'm definitely not sticking to basic blue.
I'm looking at brown denim, grey washes, tan, relaxed boyfriend fits, wide legs, longer lengths + a few really great classic blues. Some are a little more directional. Others are the jeans you'll put on three times a week.
That's what makes a good denim buy.
What I’m Buying Right Now
I'm still loving a low-slung, slouchier jean — my MOTHER Lemon Twists aren't going anywhere — but I'm mixing in cleaner silhouettes too.
And the colors are probably what I'm most excited about.
Brown denim with a cream sweater + suede loafers? Yes.
Grey jeans mixed with chocolate brown? Absolutely.
Tan denim instead of another basic blue? I'm in.
The easiest way to make fall clothes feel new isn't necessarily to change your entire wardrobe. Sometimes it's just choosing the jean in a wash you haven't worn before.
The Buyer Test
When I was buying for the store, I always came back to one question:
Will she actually wear it?
I still do.
There are plenty of interesting jeans out there. But the ones that make my edit need to feel interesting and wearable.
These are my first picks of the season — and I'll keep adding to the collection as I find more worth buying.
No stockroom. No boxes arriving. Just the buy. 🤎
