It’s officially fall, y’all. 🍂
The first day of fall always makes me want to completely rethink my closet. Even if the weather isn’t quite cooperating yet, I’m ready for layers, texture, great jackets and, obviously, new shoes.
I’m currently working on my October Dear Lucy Edit, and I wanted to give you a little preview of what’s inspiring me.
After years of buying for my stores, I still approach shopping the same way: I’m not interested in buying something just because it’s trending. I look for pieces that feel current but wearable—things that can make what you already own feel new again.
Here are a few of the pieces on my radar for fall.
1. The Leather Moto Jacket
A great black jacket is one of those pieces that instantly makes an outfit better.
What I love about this one is the clean, slightly oversized shape. Instead of feeling like a traditional fitted moto jacket, it feels modern and effortless.
I’d wear it over a button-down with trousers or jeans, over a feminine dress, or with a simple tee and loafers.
Why I love it: It gives you the leather-jacket look without trying too hard.
2. The Sweater + Dress Combination
This is exactly the kind of fall dressing I love: cozy, feminine and incredibly easy.
An oversized ivory sweater layered over a lace-trimmed dress gives you that slightly undone look that feels much more interesting than wearing either piece alone.
Add a loafer, ballet flat or boot depending on the weather.
3. The Cozy Slip-On
You know shoes will always be the first thing I notice.
This little slip-on is such a fun alternative to a sneaker or clog for fall. I especially love it styled with socks and a feminine plaid dress—the contrast is what makes the outfit.
This is one of those shoes that can completely change pieces you already have in your closet.
4. The Statement Vest
I’m obsessed.
Texture is going to be one of the easiest ways to make a simple fall outfit interesting, and this vest does all the work.
Throw it over a sweater or button-down with denim and suddenly the outfit feels intentional.
I especially love the chocolate brown for fall.
5. The Quilted Jacket
The quilted jacket continues to be one of my favorite transitional pieces.
It gives you warmth without the bulk of a winter coat, and the denim version feels especially fresh. Wear it with cream, khaki, brown or more denim.
This is the kind of piece I can see becoming a fall uniform.
6. The Button-Down
Never underestimate a really good shirt.
After looking at thousands of products over the years, I've learned that the pieces you end up wearing the most are often the simplest ones.
A relaxed striped button-down works with jeans now, under sweaters and jackets later, and again on its own in spring.
What I’m Looking for This October
My October Edit is shaping up to be all about texture, layers and pieces that make getting dressed easier.
Think chocolate brown, leather, quilted jackets, cozy knits, plaid, relaxed button-downs and shoes that make an otherwise simple outfit feel special.
I’m still hunting—and that’s half the fun.
