There’s something about the Fourth of July that will always feel like magic to me.

Growing up in the tiny village of Saxtons River, Vermont, fashion wasn’t on my mind. There were no carefully planned outfits or Instagram-worthy moments. The day was about tradition, community, and squeezing every bit out of summer.

I’d leave the house early in the morning to claim a spot for the parade. The streets would fill with neighbors waving flags, kids collecting candy, and local fire trucks rolling by with their sirens blaring. After the parade came the street fair—games, homemade treats, and seeing just about everyone you knew in one place.

The afternoon was spent at our local rec, swimming until our fingers wrinkled and our skin smelled like sunscreen. By the time the fireworks began, I was exhausted in the best possible way—wrapped in a sweatshirt, sitting on a blanket with family and friends, watching the sky light up.

Those are the memories that made me fall in love with summer.

Today, I still find myself drawn to that same effortless Americana spirit. Not because it’s trendy, but because it reminds me of simpler days.
